AMOC records of Classic Cars
When the Motor Registration Act - Victoria, Australia - was passed in 1909, all motor vehicles were assigned a unique number. In trying to trace an engine in a vehicle for originality or history, the AOMC database may be a useful resource as it records this detail.Many historic vehicles purchased as a restoration project might not have had registration details supplied and the AOMC records may provide sufficient evidence to prove previous Victorian registration.

Engine number record cards
The AOMC obtained custody of the engine numbers record cards from the Victorian government in 1992. These records cover the period from the early 1930s to the early 1980s.
More recently the AOMC has obtained a listing of all vehicles registered in Victoria for the period from about 1910 to 1920. These records contain details of
the registration number, date of registration, owner name and address. It has also gained access to similar information for registration from 1920 up to the 1930s.
The AOMC is able to undertake a search of these records and provide a report summarising some of the key details of vehicle registration history in Victoria.
The amount of information provided in the search report is dependent on the original data and varies over the period. For example it appears that it was not
until the mid or early 1920s that the make of a vehicle was regularly recorded on first registration. Unfortunately it is possible that there may be gaps in the
records, and AOMC cannot guarantee success in all cases.
