Text & Photographs by Carol Corliss                                                                                              This weekend of personalities, spectacle and superb machinery with a stately home thrown in is far too action packed to attempt a full coverage of every aspect of this great motoring weekend.  Instead, I have given the reader a flavour of what it is all about with biopics of items of interest, especially aimed at those of you who are in other parts of the world and may not have the opportunity to attend. The Earl of March, of Goodwood House is a true motoring enthusiast who happens to have the raw material at hand to lay on this world class event.

Licorne Automobiles grew out of a Company founded by J. Corre  in 1901. The company started production with motor tricycles and quadricycles, and then produced cars powered by Ballot, Scap, De Dion Bouton, and Chapuis Dornier.  In 1907 the name was changed to Corre-La Licorne.

The ever watchful eye of Nick Koleszar brought this 1934 McQuay Norris out of the Internet to light. Only about half a dozen were made in the USA, but one or two are still seen in special events around the Nation. McQuay-Norris was a maker of automobile engine parts such as piston rings, and chassis parts.  

Bill Hunter (Motormarques) did a journey in a green Citroën 4CV with Claude Savatier and J-P Bush in October 2007.  The restoration of a Renault 4CV in Coussay Les Bois. This beautiful car is now driving in the roads of Touraine (November 2008) registered 569 - S 86, painted black. 

The Isetta was one of the 'bubble cars' that grew out of the need for low-cost, economical transport in Europe just after WWII. It was designed in Italy, but the German firm BMW took it over. The air-cooled engine was adapted from a 250cc motorcycle ion the BMW range.

The large Industrial Company SOVAM (SOciété des Véhicules André Marin) provides specialist passenger and freight handling equipment to meet the very demanding ‘apron facilities’ requirements of airports – from passenger transit walkways, to freight transfer, baggage tractors, maintenance and cleaning equipment, conveyors, catering supply loaders, etc. In the mid-1960s the Company built a small sports car based on Renault chassis. The streamlined polyester-bodied car also carried the name SOVAM.

The automobile manufacturing company BNC (Bollack, Netter et Cie) started life in 1922 when Lucien Bollack teamed up with banking magnate Netter to take control of an ailing cyclecar manufacturing business run by Jacques Muller, a former engineer with Hispano-Suiza. Muller stayed on in the new company as technical director.
