Mahany, Will

Written by
William (Will) Mahany is making a name for himself as a very competent driver in VSCC racing.  He comes from a line of keen motorists, his grandfather was a garage proprietor in Cornwall and his father Ian is the world’s leading authority on HRG’s
Ian has been involved with the HRG marque since the 1960’s and his knowledge of them is extensive.  So it is no surprise that Will is racing a Le Mans replica HRG today. After a brief flirtation with racing a Caterham Seven Will has found his métier with the HRG and has put up some very impressive results. More recently Will has been driving John Warden’s beautiful Delage with which he won the Fox & Nicholl Trophy at Silverstone at the VSCC Silverstone meeting on the 21st April 2007. The Delage suffered with various problems which included overheating and handling when Will took it over.  His experience came through and he was able to determine that the poor handling was not due to understeer as at first thought and by fitting an additional transverse front spring below the original it has been transformed into a race winner. It is good to see the younger generation of drivers in VSCC events and Will is sure to be one of the drivers to watch in the future.
