Late in 1932, Lord Howe approached the MG factory to build a team of 3 cars to be entered in the under-1100 cc class in the 1933 Mille Miglia. The factory set to and built this car which was born on 4th January 1933 and immediately taken to Italy to be driven around the course by the 6 drivers, 2 drivers per car. In those days the race went through the town of Moderna, where Ferrari had his factory. The photo on display shows the K3 outside the Ferrari Works and standing behind the car are the great racing drivers of the Thirties: Lord Howe, Tazio Nivolari, Enzzo Ferrari, County Johnny Lurani and George Eyston. The car was imported into Australia by Peter Dale and advertised by him in Australian Motor Sport as the car Nuvolari drove to victory in the 1933 Ulster TT. The first owner in Australia was George Cuming of Shepparton, then John Sawyer, Graham Nankervis and Laurie Rofe; the present owner, Jim Nilsson bought the vehicle in 1959. In 1995, a ground-up restoration was done in preparation for taking the K3 to the UK in 1966 for the World Fiva Rally. After this Rally, the K3 was driven across France to the Black Forest in Germany to visit another K 3 owner, then to Switzerland to visit two K3 owners and then back to England to ship home. In all the time the K3 was in the UK and Europe - exactly as it is now, with no hood and no windscreen - it never rained while the car was being driven, "so God must have wanted to own a K3 MG".
